On September 7th, local muralist Peniel Macias, renowned for her vibrant murals across greater Tucson, visited our school for a special collaboration. As part of her "Radical Unity" project, our students at the Tucson Japanese Language School had the unique opportunity to contribute to a community mural.
The project features a powerful image: a little girl blowing on a dandelion, with the seeds spreading in the wind, symbolizing the far-reaching impact of a single act of kindness on a community. Our students enthusiastically painted these wooden dandelion seed parts, each creating their own unique color themes, patterns, and designs using Japanese Poster Color Markers. The vivid colors truly brought their individual creativity to life.
Peniel, who has collaborated with nine groups so far on this project, anticipates the mural's completion by October. It will be proudly displayed inside the Tucson Park Place Mall. We are incredibly excited to see how our small, individually colored parts will come together to form one large, beautiful mural!
A huge thank you to Peniel for providing such a wonderful opportunity for our school to be a part of this meaningful community project. We eagerly anticipate seeing more of her artwork adorning our town!
